lead Server

At the bustling restaurant at Madbush Falls, Vermont’s bike & ski basecamp in the incredible Mad River Valley, we're hiring a lead servers to help grow our talented team. We are looking to build on our first-year successes (over 150 5-star reviews!) and prepare for the busy seasons ahead. Our welcoming restaurant and bar is full every night, loved by locals and tourists alike. In our first year, our 24 room lodge, restaurant/bar bike & ski shop have received acclaim from Outside Magazine, the Seven Days, Wall St Journal, Vogue Magazine, and more. Tip averages have been fantastic!  


If you’re well-versed in service standards, eager to help other servers grow, a lover of hospitality, and eager to share your excitement on Vermont food, beer and cocktails, this could be your dream job. 


Our restaurant has over 100 seats between indoor/outdoor and dining on 2 levels, along with built-in business from a 24-room hotel, a dozen glamping tents, a bike shop operated by the Outdoor Gear Exchange, and riverside Savu saunas. Pay including tip averages for lead servers have been very high ($35/hr-$50+/hr).


If you’re the right fit for this job, you already know what it entails. You will lead by example and help others succeed. You will have more interaction with some guests than anybody else in their entire stay. Their memories of Madbush Falls and even Vermont in general will be formed by you!


Lead Responsibilities:


Lead Server is an elevated status that is earned by our best guest service providers at Madbush Falls who uphold our standards of service (and tip averages!) for the restaurant as a whole, and help others do as well:    

  • Conducting a brief daily pre-shift meeting

  • Leading by example on shift in terms of guest service, timeliness, attention to detail, personal presentation, etc. 

  • Focusing on the overall guest experience in the restaurant during their shift, not just your specific tables/bar

  • Offering limited on-shift training and feedback to servers and staff as appropriate

  • Getting important messages and feedback from Executive Chef and BOH to the FOH team during shift. 

  • Participating in a weekly stand-up with Management and Chef to set priorities for each week and ensure clear communication between service team and guests.


    Server Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests in a friendly and welcoming manner, escort them to their tables, and provide menus.

  • Offer recommendations on food and beverage options, taking into account guests’ preferences and dietary restrictions.

  • Take accurate food and drink orders, using a POS system efficiently.

  • Deliver food and beverages to guests promptly and accurately, ensuring quality and presentation meet established standards.

  • Check on guests regularly to ensure satisfaction, address any concerns or requests promptly, and make suggestions for additional items.

  • Upsell menu items and promote daily specials to increase sales.

  • Collaborate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth and timely service.

  • Process guest payments accurately, handling cash and credit transactions securely.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tables, chairs, and surrounding sections.

  • Set up tables and arrange seating areas to accommodate reservations and walk-in guests.

  • Assist with the opening and closing duties, including restocking supplies and cleaning tasks.

  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.

  • Stay updated on menu items, ingredients, and any changes in policies or procedures.


Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a server in a high-volume restaurant or similar establishment.

  • Excellent knowledge of food and beverage menus, including wine and cocktail offerings.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests and team members.

  • Exceptional customer service skills, with a friendly and outgoing personality.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in order taking, delivering orders, and processing payments.

  • Basic math skills for handling transactions and making change.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift moderate weights.

  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer skills.


Pay: this is a tipped position that pays $35/hr-$50+/hr.
